David J. Segarnick, PhD, is Chief Science Officer at OcuSynex, where he provides scientific and medical strategy leadership across the company's AI platform, medical communications, medical affairs, and commercialization initiatives. Working at the intersection of science, strategy, and storytelling, David helps life sciences organizations identify evidence gaps and strategic whitespace, develop differentiated scientific narratives, and translate complex data into actionable communications and educational programs.
David brings more than two decades of experience in healthcare communications, having held senior leadership positions in medical strategy, medical affairs, and strategic planning. He has served as the lead medical strategist for numerous major product launches and lifecycle initiatives, developing the scientific platforms and compelling “reasons to believe” that support clinical differentiation. His experience spans ophthalmology, oncology and hematology, cardiovascular disease, endocrinology, neurology, psychiatry, gastroenterology, rheumatology, pain management, rare disease, and gene therapy.
In his role at OcuSynex, David combines deep scientific expertise with strategic insight and advanced AI-enabled evidence analysis to help pharmaceutical and biotechnology teams understand where they are today, define where they need to go, and develop the medical strategies and communications required to close that gap.
David is also an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology and Neuroscience at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, where he teaches Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Marketing to graduate students. His course connects foundational pharmacology with drug development, clinical positioning, product differentiation, and commercialization.
David completed his graduate and postdoctoral training in neuropharmacology at the NYU School of Medicine and the New York Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He has authored more than two dozen articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, contributed chapters to medical textbooks, and frequently moderates advisory boards, scientific workshops, and strategic platform-development meetings.
